Matewave

Matewave is an offline-first chess app. Play against the AI, solve puzzles, learn openings, or play a friend nearby over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. No accounts, no servers, no ads and no tracking.

Play against the AI

• Four difficulty levels, from beginner to strong club player.
• Time controls from bullet 1+0 to classical 30+20, or no time limit.
• An unfinished game is saved with its whole move list and clock and can be continued later.

Puzzles

• 1,207 puzzles from the Lichess puzzle database, picked to match your rating.
• Hints, the solution on request, and progress through multi-move puzzles.

Learn openings with spaced repetition

• 24 main lines for White and Black.
• New moves are learned with the piece highlighted; reviews ask only the moves that are due.
• Earn up to three stars per opening with flawless scheduled reviews.

Play with friends nearby

• Over Bluetooth LE (no pairing) or the same Wi-Fi network, without internet.
• Chat with images, draw offers, resignation and rematch.
• Games are encrypted end to end, and each device has its own key, so a friend cannot be impersonated.

• The opening name and whether the game is still in theory, shown during games.
• Rating with a history graph, captured pieces and material balance.
• Four board color themes.
• Optional Radio Swiss Jazz background stream (the only feature that uses the internet).
• Share the app to another phone with a QR code over Wi-Fi.
