Quick answer
XMPP messenger with OMEMO, calls and protected local storage.
LibreSpan is a modern Android XMPP messenger derived from Conversations through AnotherIM.
It keeps the open, provider-independent XMPP model: sign in with your existing JID and use the services supported by your XMPP server.
Highlights: • OMEMO end-to-end encrypted messaging • Audio and video calls over Jingle/WebRTC • Images, files, voice messages, audio and video • Group chats and channels (MUC) • Message Archive Management (MAM) • HTTP Upload and UnifiedPush support • Secure Content Store for protected local message and media data • App Lock and optional High Security protection for supported devices • Local search and a simplified modern Android interface
LibreSpan does not require a project-specific XMPP provider. Server capabilities are discovered through XMPP.
The project is free and open-source software. LibreSpan is based on the Conversations family and preserves upstream attribution and licensing.

How to install
- Download the APK from the button at the top of this page.
- Allow “Install unknown apps” for your browser or file manager only, not for every app.
- Open the downloaded file and confirm the installation.
- If installation fails with “App not installed,” remove an earlier build of the same app first. A signature conflict is the usual cause.
Data safety
- Every file is checked against its published SHA-256 before it is listed.
- Files are scanned for malware on every update.
- The permissions each app requests are listed on its own page.
- Read the full safety policy for how we test, flag, and delist files.
