Quick answer

Beta shield that blocks Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts scrolling

AwayDoomscrollin' is an open-source, privacy-first Android accessibility app developed by Resolve Community. It attempts to interrupt endless scrolling on Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.

Beta status: • Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts detection is a beta feature. • Detection and safe-area classification depend on accessibility information exposed by third-party apps, Android, and device manufacturers. Interface changes can cause missed detections or false positives; perfect detection and universal compatibility are not claimed.

Features: • Feed Shield: Covers recognized Instagram Home and Explore media in place. When a Reel or protected post viewer is recognized, it performs a Back action. TikTok and YouTube Shorts use event-based protection. Routine interventions are silent. • Areas that remain available: Designed to keep Instagram messaging, profile information, Stories and Search, plus normal YouTube videos, usable. Media grids inside profiles and message details may be covered to prevent access to short-form content. • User control: Protection can be disabled from the app or Android accessibility settings; the app does not monitor settings or prevent service deactivation. • Streak Tracker: Tracks local daily focus streaks and blocking statistics.

Privacy and network transparency: • The Android manifest declares INTERNET permission. Screen-content analysis and blocking run on-device, but the app is not fully offline. • Optional usage-data sharing is off by default. No telemetry request is made and no telemetry installation UUID is created until you read the detailed disclosure and confirm “Turn on sharing.” • While enabled, telemetry sends v2 protocol/report identifiers, a random installation UUID, device model, Android and screen information, AwayDoomscrollin', Instagram, TikTok and YouTube versions, total and per-app intervention counts, and accumulated Instagram protection time with its measurement version to awaydoomscrollin.com. Local streak days and XP are not sent. Explicit opt-in may trigger one immediate attempt, later automatic attempts share one persisted 24-hour interval, and turning telemetry off stops new submissions, though an in-flight request may finish. The latest server snapshot expires within 90 days, and the server stores a SHA-256 installation key rather than the raw UUID. • Detection and protection logic runs entirely on-device; internet access is never used for protection decisions.

AwayDoomscrollin' is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Meta, ByteDance, Google, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. Their names are used only to describe compatibility.

What’s new

Protection refresh across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

• Instagram: Saved, Likes and Reposts collections exit on entry; the highlight picker, menu, banner editor and Threads shortcut stay usable.
• TikTok: opens normally; the first swipe in For You or Friends exits; Following and Community entries snap back.
• YouTube Shorts: one Short stays watchable; the first swipe toward the next closes the viewer.
• No time limits or quotas. New language switch.

How to install

  1. Download the APK from the button at the top of this page.
  2. Allow “Install unknown apps” for your browser or file manager only, not for every app.
  3. Open the downloaded file and confirm the installation.
  4. If installation fails with “App not installed,” remove an earlier build of the same app first. A signature conflict is the usual cause.

Data safety

  • Every file is checked against its published SHA-256 before it is listed.
  • Files are scanned for malware on every update.
  • The permissions each app requests are listed on its own page.
  • Read the full safety policy for how we test, flag, and delist files.
